The project

A Cultural Anchor of Waves, Brick, and Light

In April 2025, Culturespaces opened the first permanent center for immersive art in Hamburg at Port des Lumières. The location couldn’t be more fitting: right in the new Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier in HafenCity, just steps from the water and the harbor.

As with all its other locations, Culturespaces sought a place in Hamburg that embodies the city’s DNA and history – and found it here. The quarter reflects Hamburg’s maritime identity like few other places.

Architecture That Breathes Hamburg

The building’s architecture reflects its proximity to the harbor:

  • A wave-shaped façade symbolizing movement and water

  • A reconstructed ship’s bow in the main hall, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the history of transatlantic cruising

  • An exterior clad in brick, elegantly blending into HafenCity

  • Golden design elements adding luminous accents

The result is a place that combines Hamburg’s tradition with cutting-edge technology – a new landmark for art and experiences.

"By investing in a location that is completely new we have the opportunity to redesign the visitor experience while also taking ecological aspects into account. The iconic architecture, huge projection screens, state-of-the-art technology and breathtaking views from different heights and perspectives will turn our visitors' artistic journey into an unforgettable experience."
